Description of Events data file
Our main study endpoint events are: MI, angina, bypass surgery, angioplasty, CHF, stroke, TIA, and claudication death. Incident MI, angina, claudication, stroke, TIA, and CHF events are adjudicated by a panel of doctors. Recurrent MI and stroke are adjudicated only if the participant was not prevalent at baseline. Definitions of these events are provided here.
Non-cerebrovascular events may be classified as definite/probable and MI and CHF may be classified as procedure related or not. The summary event file we distribute has first event for each category, regardless of further classification, and time from entry in study until that event. We can also build more complicated data sets upon request, for example time to first definite, non-procedure-related MI.
We do not provide actual dates in the event files. Instead, we provide a ‘time to event’ variable. This, in combination with study time at each visit will allow computation of time to event from any visit.
